How does buying a license during beta work?

You're purchasing your v1 license early at the current early bird price. Until v1 is released, you continue using the same public beta available to everyone.

For Essential and Team licenses, the 1-year update period begins once the official v1 is released (after the beta concludes).

Is purchasing a license a requirement for beta access?

No, the public beta is open to everyone, and we encourage broad participation. If you find the program useful and wish to support its development, preordering a license is a meaningful way to contribute.

What is a perpetual license?

A perpetual license allows you to use the program indefinitely.

For Essential and Team licenses, once the included 1-year update period ends, you can continue using the latest version available when your updates expire. You can renew later to receive new updates.

Pro and Team Pro include updates for as long as File Pilot continues to be developed.

Can an individual license be used for commercial work?

Yes, Essential and Pro can be used for commercial work, but the license belongs to the individual user and cannot be transferred to another person.

For businesses needing transferable licenses, Team and Team Pro cover up to 10 employees and can be reassigned within the organization.

Can a single license be installed on multiple devices/OSes?

Yes. A single user can install File Pilot on multiple devices. For business licenses, this applies to each of the included employees. This will also include different operating systems as File Pilot adds support for them.

What benefits do the Pro and Team Pro licenses offer?

Beyond lifetime updates, Pro and Team Pro include VIP Discord access, priority for critical bugs and crashes and early access to Insider versions.

Why are the prices set at this level?

All licenses include every feature, support multiple devices and operating systems, and remain yours even after updates expire.

Essential and Team include one year of updates, while Pro and Team Pro include updates for as long as File Pilot continues to be developed. The pricing reflects that long term ownership rather than a recurring subscription.

Do you offer discounts for education, nonprofits, or other groups?

We don't currently offer fixed discounts for specific groups, but feel free to contact us with your situation and we'll see what we can do.

What payment methods are supported?

Payments are processed through Paddle, with support for major credit and debit cards, PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Play and several regional payment methods.

Wire transfers are also available for customized deals. More purchasing options may be added in the future, including Steam.

Is there a plan to provide or sell the source code?

We plan to offer Source Included as a separate purchase for users who want to learn from or extend File Pilot for their own use.

File Pilot will not be open source, but we want to support users interested in customizing it for their needs.
